English, Baroque, Iberian and academic saddles are our speciality and we cater for all horse breeds with a specialism in Iberian and old Baroque such as PRE, Lusitano, Lipizzaner, Freisian, Spanish mustang, Barb and northern European natives to name but a few. We utilize an holistic approach to saddle fitting and we not only look at how the saddle fits when the horse is in motion, but we look at the correct fitting of bits and bridles according to natural biomechanics and anatomical structure of the horses mouth. Plateau has a comprehensive list of trusted artisan saddlers who believe in the same ethical and clinical research which drives saddle design where the comfort of both horse and rider is paramount. We can build a saddle based upon your specific requirements and we also have a small stock of high quality used saddles which are fitted and adjusted to your horse. We visit Portugal 3-4 times a year and will travel to your yard to give you a thorough bespoke service. Saddle, bit and bridle assessments are extremely thorough and will take any thing from 2-4 hours, depending on the needs of the horse/rider. Plateau offers a service which is underpinned by the latest research in equine biomechanics, tack and design and behaviour to find a solution which is correct, sustainable & improves trainability.

We also offer qualified advice on the history and archeology of historical equitation, such as research on historical saddles from archaeological evidence which is a unique combination of authenticity & modern design. Plateau can assist in the design and build of hand made saddles from Roman times to the 19th century.
